Video installation, Erfurt
Two interchanging video sequences are projected onto two faces of the Nicolai-Tower. Blue water rising up the tower disappears into the window or rather into the plughole projected onto it. Some minutes later, the tower is “flooded” by blue water running down its side. Research about the history of Erfurt sparked off this image idea: while the tower was erected in medieval times, the trade of woad – woad is a yellow-flowering plant yielding a blue dye – and the dyeing of fabrics played an important role in this town of many rivers. The tower‘s colour scheme of today – light blue-grey with yellow-painted corner stones and window surrounds – invites the association that the tower is dreaming of a golden age, which pales to a faint greeting from afar during the daytime.
